The film was released in the United States on March 7, 2008.

The film was released or is set to be released in Singapore on April 27, 2008, in Australia and the Netherlands on August 7, 2008 , in the United Kingdom and a Canadian expansion on August 22, 2008, in Egypt on 14 May,2008 in Finland on 8 August, 2008, in Brazil on April 30, 2008, in Hong Kong on August 28, 2008, and in the Philippines on April 27, 2008. The full movie will have a free TV world premiere in exclusively on Disney Channel Asia on June 28, 2008.

The movie stars Raven-Symoné as college-bound teen Melanie Porter, who goes on a road trip to different colleges with her father, a police officer, played by Martin Lawrence, who is afraid of her moving far from home. The film also stars Brenda Song as college-bound teen Nancy, who surprises Melanie on her road trip along with her friend, Katie, played by Margo Harshman. Memorable scenes include her father breaking into a sorority house where she is staying, where he hides and oversleeps, causing them to miss their plane flight; an outdoor wedding reception being destroyed by the family's pet pig; and also a later scene where Mr. Porter and his panicked daughter must parachute from a plane.
